Importance of Memorizing the Quran

I invite all of you present, young

and old, here or through the screens,

men and women, to make the most of life by memorizing the Quran,

for by God, it is the firm rope,

and it is elevation

and advancement in this world, in the intermediate realm,

and the Hereafter. The bearer of the

Quran is given precedence in this world, as you see in

leading the worshippers in prayer, and is given precedence in the intermediate realm

in burial,

as with the martyrs of Badr, according to who had learned more of the Book of God.

The Prophet, peace be upon him, gave him precedence,

and in the Hereafter, it will be said

to the bearer of the Quran, "Recite, ascend, and chant."

The bearer of the Quran will clothe his parents, the bearer of the Quran will clothe

his parents with the crown of honor. And for this Quran

Memorizing it has methods.

I’ll keep it brief.

First, make a firm resolve and intention, and pray to God sincerely.

And repeat it.

Ask God to grant you this great honor, then

turn to one physical copy of the Quran.

Base your memorization on that one copy,

one that is easy enough to look at.

Set a daily amount to memorize, and strive to

keep the amount short and repeat it often.

Repetition.

Memorize one page of the Quran each day,

dividing its fifteen lines into sections.

into three parts. For example, listen to one

of the reciters carefully and precisely, then begin

by imitating that, then memorize it afterward,

repeating letter by letter, word by word,

sentence by sentence, line by line, verse by verse,

linking each verse to the one that follows it, and so on,

until you read at least one page a day.

And if you can memorize two sides, two sides, not

two sheets, meaning 15 lines and another 15

lines, then you will complete the Quran in less than

a year, God willing.

But this is God's inheritance for His chosen ones and servants. He

the Almighty said, "Then We gave the Book as inheritance to those We chose

from among Our servants." And He the Almighty said, "Rather, it is clear

verses in the hearts of those given knowledge." Look at the efforts of

these scholars. Look at what the Messenger of God

peace and blessings be upon him, did and endured in conveying this

Quran. Look at Gabriel's descent, Gabriel, the angel

great and close to God, whom God sent with this Quran because of its honor

and its exalted status. He the Almighty said, "Indeed, it is the word of a noble

messenger, possessing strength, established with the Lord of the Throne,

“Obeyed, then trustworthy.” All these are qualities of honor

and distinction for Gabriel, peace be upon him, making him worthy

to bring down this Quran upon the Prophet's heart,

that he may comprehend it, may Allah bless him

and grant him peace. “Indeed, it is a revelation

from the Lord of the Worlds, brought down by the Trustworthy Spirit,

upon your heart so that you may be among the warners, in a clear

Arabic tongue.”

So, make good use of your time and fill it with what

benefits you. What brings one closest to God is His mighty

and exalted Word. So seek God's help and renew

your resolve and reason, and make the intention

to master and memorize this Quran,

while steadfastly supplicating and asking God for help,

success, soundness, and guidance. This, and God

knows best. May Allah's blessings and peace be upon our Prophet

Muhammad, and upon his family and companions.
