How do I fix subtitles that appear too early or too late?

If subtitles show before the dialogue starts, they need to appear later: apply a positive offset, for example +500 ms. If subtitles lag behind the dialogue, apply a negative offset to pull them earlier. Adjust in small steps until the first line matches the audio.

Does shifting work with both SRT and VTT files?

Yes. The tool detects the format automatically and keeps it: SRT files keep comma millisecond timestamps and renumbered cue indexes, while VTT files keep the WEBVTT header, dot timestamps, cue identifiers, and cue settings such as position and alignment.

What happens to cues shifted before 00:00:00?

A cue that would end at or before zero is removed, since it could never be shown. A cue that would start before zero but still end after it is clamped to start at 00:00:00. Remaining SRT cues are renumbered so the file stays valid.
