Political Critique in Brazilian Elections

Unfortunately, many political figures from my country, called Brazil, promoted themselves and won the election by insulting and attacking people.

There was no proposal for a university, Laércio.

Senator Laércio, please forgive me, Senator Laércio Oliveira.

They didn't present to their states a proposal to bring new federal institutes to educate young people, so they would have a future.

They didn't include in their proposals, in their states, that they would come to Brasília to defend Brazil's economic development.

They didn't tell Brazil that they would take care of Brazilians' health.

They didn't tell Brazil that they would come to Brasília as a representative or senator, to defend democracy.

They didn't present that. Defend the rule of law. They didn't present that.

Defend democratic institutions. They didn't present any.

But insults, attacks, and threats happened every day.

And worst of all, unfortunately, to my sorrow and that of millions of people, they won the elections.

Based on some specific agenda, whether against the Judiciary, whether against the Executive, whether against the president of the Federal Senate, because it won votes in the election.

A member of parliament insulted the president of the Federal Senate, who doesn't start impeachment proceedings against a Supreme Court justice.

But it got the votes. And here we are. They opened the ballot boxes and won the election.

But worst of all, Senator Damares Alves, Senator Izalci, is that in the first round the electronic voting machine worked.

In the first round, they opened the electronic voting machine and that same electronic voting machine which is thirty years old, It was used to elect one hundred and twenty federal deputies from the party of the candidate who lost the election.

That same electronic voting machine was used to elect twenty-some senators.

It was used to celebrate in the first round a victorious election for President Lula's opponent, who won by more than two million votes in the first round.

And when the second round opened, the voting machine stopped working.

The result counted in the first round. I couldn't find one, Jaime, to say it had been wrong since the first round.

I wanted to find one to say it only went wrong in the second round.

No, nobody says anything anymore. Nobody warns anyone.

Everything went wrong. The vote count went up by ten million, twelve million votes, I don't know what happened.

It was that same electronic voting machine.

So, I am asking Your Excellencies that we, all of us, are obliged to bring the debate back to a reasonable sense of our country.

I'm asking Your Honors to let us use these microphones to think about what we want for future generations.

I'm asking Your Honors to let us think about what we intend to do to improve the health of the Brazilian people.
