Discussion on Middle East Security Threats

My name is Abd al- Mu'in Hussein Ali Azzan, from Dhamar Governorate.

Uh, I live in Sana'a. I graduated with a degree in French from the Faculty of Arts, uh, at Sana'a University in 1999.

At the end of December 2019, uh, I traveled on behalf of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to Jordan to take a course uh, organized by the UN security department, DSS.

And, of course, during my visit to Jordan, I met with Israeli intelligence officer Shaul Gat.

In the discussion, uh, we also talked about what was between Shaul and me, Shaul told me, uh, that they had many studies and opinions uh, on how to address the growing capabilities of the Houthis in Yemen.

Uh, among the options they were studying and considering was to strike the Grand Mosque in Mecca or near one of the Two Holy Mosques, and for the strike, for example, to come from the Red Sea or from somewhere else that would prove the strike came from Yemen.

And, of course, they would pin the blame on the Hou— Houthis like that, This was accompanied by a media frenzy and widespread incitement campaigns against the Arabs, and, of course, the jihadists who flocked to Yemen from— from various places.

I remember replying to him and saying, “This is a dangerous scenario,” and the region is important to the whole world.

I mean, jihadists, Ansar Allah, the Red Sea, and so on…

That sort of thing. Uh, he replied, “No, we’ll secure the Red Sea internationally.”

It will be secured internationally. And the Americans will secure the oil sources.

And we’ll let the Saudis, the Houthis, and the jihadists drown in the desert while we stand by and watch.
