Warning Against False Democracy in Syria

As for you, our people in beloved Syria, do not be like the moth that flies into the fire, after her sister has already gone before her.

You have experienced dictatorship, and years of oppression, so beware of replacing those years of oppression with the oppression of democracy.

The people of Iraq came before you in this, and they tried it in Egypt, Tunisia, and Libya.

Look at their condition and what became of them.

And beware of being bitten from the same hole from which Muslims in those lands were bitten.

Abu Huraira, may God be pleased with him, narrated: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “A believer is not bitten from the same hole twice.”

Do not make democracy the price for the thousands of your people who were killed.

Do not make democracy the price for the mangled bodies beneath the rubble of houses demolished on the heads of their occupants— women, children, and elders.

Do not make democracy the price of being driven from your homes and living in tents.

Do not make democracy the price for the honor of our daughters and women that was violated, for, by God, it is a wretched price and a wretched thing to acquire.

And you too, our people in the Levant, and corruption.

And among the forms of corruption is being content to be ruled by man- made laws after all these sacrifices.
